Hola de Costa Rica

We have finally arrived in Costa Rica. We landed at 8:45 a.m. in San Jose, and we hit the ground running. Wow! Have we been busy! San Jose is a beautiful city with really nice people. The driving is crazy, but all in all it seems like a great place to spend a year learning Spanish.

We have been to several different grocery stores and other shops. We went downtown to the Central Market, and we experienced Tico (native) food and lifestyle. We have already experienced culture shock. Language is a difficult barrier to break through. Walking is difficult everywhere as well because when you come to an intersection you have to be very careful. If you are in the street when a car is coming, they will not stop for you. Pedestrians do not have any right of way, anywhere, anytime. So, we have to be very careful as we walk around the city.

Our kid's school seems to be good. They seem to really care about our children. Chariti, Kaylee, & Chaz want to play soccer. This is good because they only do extracurricular activities in Spanish. So, it will help the children to learn Spanish quickly. Sherry and I begin school on Monday, January 8, 2007. We will jump right into classes on the 9th. We will be very busy studying. It will seem like we are back in kindergarten at first. We hope to learn quickly, but we will not be discouraged if it takes a while.

God is good! He is really helping us with patience and everything. For example, we were supposed to have high-speed internet service in our apartment, and it didn't happen until Saturday. We now have it and our phone is up and running. Please check our website for our phone number and please, please, please feel free to call anytime. We do have voicemail, and we WILL call back when we have time. We would love to hear from you all. It will give us a taste of home to hear your voices.
